They all awake later than normal to no sign of Rogers. After searching the find Rogers' body in the woodshed with a hatchet wound in the back of his head. Vera asks Emily if she's afraid of dying, and Emily thinks to herself that she can't die because she's led an upright life. Vera and Emily prepare food, and all the characters behave politely at breakfast with nervous thoughts on their mind.
Chapter twelve begins with Emily feeling woozy as she looks out the window. She begins to feel delusional as she sees a bee outside. She then feels a prick in the back of her neck. The rest of the characters proceed to the dining room and find Emily dead. Wargrave suggests that all the characters turn in any possible weapons. Armstrong's syringe is no where to be found. They discover that it was thrown out the window, along with the sixth Indian figure. Five characters remain.
